So I just feel the need to add, and this is not my personal opinion, it's straight from the writer of the Kenshin manga. Hiko is basically, well, you can't beat him. If he fought Shishio, Hiko would have wrecked Shishio. This was Hiko doing a favor for his apprentice, and in doing so, finding someone he respected. Hiko did not hate Fuji. He viewed him as an honorable warrior, admittedly a less skilled one, but one he could speak with and find a common ground. And so it became a simple battle of who was stronger, and..it's Hiko. You're not gonna beat him. In the series, Kenshin is the god-like protagonist, but it's not til season 2 that Kenshin becomes the "better."
